The Giant, Thomas, and Queenventure

A long time ago there lived an ugly giant named Othorong’ongo. The wild beast had long nails and yellow eyes. He lived in a forest named Mwembe Tayari forest.

Near that forest there was a village and in that village there lived a boy called Thomas. Thomas was twelve years old. Thomas was very sad because he was an orphan. Thomas was also a lazy boy, and the villagers hated him for his laziness. He would pretend to work with the others when the time came for planting, carrying other people’s jembes to the garden and back home, but never digging. Then he would go to neighbours’ houses asking for food.

Even though he was very handsome, nobody loved him because he was very dirty, had bowed legs, and was even smelly.

One day Thomas was walking around a compound where rich people lived, looking for a job so he could get money for his school fees. As he was walking around the compound he found a beautiful girl sitting by a swimming pool wearing a swimming costume. It was very hot and the girl was drinking cold juice. The girl was so selfish, she would not even give Thomas any juice when he asked for a sip to kill his thirst.

Thomas did not give up. He began by asking her, “What’s your name, Beautiful?”

The girl replied recklessly, “My name is Queenventure, I am the Queen of my dad!” Thomas told her it was a beautiful name.

“What are you doing in this place?” Queenventure asked Thomas.

“Just passing by and I saw you,” said Thomas.

“Then go away,” she said to Thomas.

“Nice to meet you, Queen,” said Thomas, and he left.

Queenventure got into the swimming pool and started swimming. Thomas went on with walking.

Soon he found Queenventure’s father and he asked him, “Can you give me a job around the ‘hood?” But with the way Thomas was smelling due to his lack of bathing the father chased him away, yelling “There is no job here for people like you!”

Thomas left sadly but inside his heart he liked the beautiful girl he had seen in the swimming pool.

On his way to the village he saw a mango tree with ripe mangos and admired them. He went inside the forest to get near the mango tree but the sad thing was that he saw a big giant coming toward him. The giant was very tall and fat with hair all over its body. The giant was very angry because people from the village had been coming in to the forest to cut wood.

“They might cut all the trees down and leave me homeless!” he roared.

Thomas was very scared. He began explaining to the giant, “I did not come for wood! I came only for one ripe mango I saw while I was outside the forest.” Thomas was shaking as he spoke. The giant was convinced he was telling the truth.

“What is your name and where are you coming from?” the giant asked Thomas.

“Thomas,” said Thomas. “I come from a village, but right now I am coming from the rich man’s compound near the forest.”

Thomas kept talking, telling the giant sweet things so that the giant would not hurt him. Then he ran away.

Thomas had a special power – he could locate people in his mind even when he could not see them. So one day when he was sitting his power showed him the giant. The giant was going to Queenventure’s house to kidnap her. So Thomas went very quickly to Queenventure’s house.

But the giant had a magic ring to command the animals. So he called the animals to send them to stop Thomas. But the ring was starting to lose its magic and the animals did not go. So when the giant reached the house and took Queenventure, Thomas had already arrived. He took a sword and cut off the giant’s head. The giant was dead.

Queenventure was very happy to see that and Thomas became famous for his bravery and changed his lazy behavior, and even Queenventure changed and in the end they married each other. They were blessed with two bouncing baby boys and lived happily ever after.
