Sorry Mama - Charles and Stephen 2008 (A Poem)

Poem below written during the post election violence Dec 2007 - February 2008 By Charles and Stephen 2008. Mathare North Library

SORRY MAMA!

Hi! Mama dry your tears
You don't have to cry those hopeless tears,
You always real for us like a mother
Struggling with life with 6 children on your
Own,
I feel like 17yrs old, no father for me around,
He was gone before I was borne,
I feel sorry for you mama,
Be coz they always call you a beggar,
When they see me coming around their yard!
They say! Here we go! He's coming for sugar,
I wish I had my father around,
He could be helping you around,
And that's why!

I'M SORRY MAMA

I used to hung around in my hood,
No love for my friends
Coz they think they had a lot in the hood,
My teacher always told me! Son it's your
Time to feel the gap your daddy left.
My mother always coming home late,
It's bad for a single mother like you
To cry tears, coz you can't pay rent!
I wish I had a job so I can pay for my mother rent!
I hung around in the hood, looking for a job,
But they called me hopeless and mindless,
But all along I was looking for a job,
Becoz I don't want to rob,
Yes!

I'M SORRY MAMA

Once we were poor enough
But today she can laugh and laugh
Dear God I'm a man now,
I hope mama you are ridding
And smiling in the car that I bought for you?
It takes me 16yrs without seeing you
Smiling,
But now you are shining like a star.
In the dark,
I feel good in the hood
In my childhood memory, she told me
Not to get involve in bad activities,
She always says! Do the good thing for
Your future, but I didn't know what that future means,
She was jobless and hopeless, but she was that real woman
For us,
In the morning the first word was wake up or
Get up, and don't fool your self boy,
Get your bag and go to school,
I was a fool by that time. And that's why

I'M SORRY MAMA
